Life as an artist

I am an artist, a person who creates things, I dive into the world of imagination, and in it I pull out what I like most, and transfer it onto my canvas.

It’s hard being an artist, we are always plagued by doubts on artwork, “Is it good enough?”, “No he/she is better than me”, “How can I be the next superstar artist?”, “Is it even possible to live off my art?”. All these questions enter our minds and destroy what little confidence we have in our skills and dream. But is that the only hard thing about being an artist… no, another is dealing with the so called critics of this world, people who judge your art based on what they find attractive or on how they would’ve preferred the image to look like. It’s an endless battle for your own sanity. Although we go through these hardships, and some might say we suffer from it, we are strong people, for drawing itself doesn’t allow us to lose all hope in ourselves, because one can only improve from his/her previous artwork. That thought alone is strong enough to crush any negativity that may come our way.

But there is a bright side to being an artist, the first is glory, the possibility of having the entire art world know your name, one can be satisfied with his career if that were to happen. The second is immortality, art is universal, and it can be remembered for generations to come as we all know with the Mona Lisa and even the manga/anime Dragon Ball Z. Our art can last forever, it can inspire the new era and it can serve as a reminder of how things use to be, what it means to be original too.

So now that you understand our hardships and desires, then surely you must now understand why we aren’t that social. It’s one thing to have to listen to someone critic your art badly, but it’s ten times worse for us to know that we wasted time partying than working on the next Dragon Ball Z, so forgive us, it’s not personal, we just want glory, and popping bottles just for the fun of it isn’t as fun knowing that “If I finish this comic, I can be remembered for something.” For me specifically, I’m very social and good with people, but that’s outside my studio, as soon as I set foot in there it’s very difficult to leave.

Our art comes first and so that "kind of" makes us loners because the creative process is a lonely journey, we can’t have someone cheering us on while drawing, it’ll be too distracting. So dear friends and family, please leave us alone when we drawing. One last thing, so if all we want is immortality and glory, does that mean we want a lot of cash and cool cars?

Well who doesn’t but with us, we know we won’t even have enough time to enjoy driving those cars, relaxing in our Jacuzzi or even admiring our big mansion, because at the end of the day, it only takes one room with your desk and tools to create something, and that’s all that matters, we just want to draw.
